Tomorrow is the 27th Annual Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot! It is a 5k fun-run enjoyed by thousands of runners, joggers, and walkers each year. Yes, it’s usually cold, and yes it starts early in the morning, but nothing’s more satisfying than completing the run before the holiday feast begins.

The first Turkey Trot was in 1984 and had only 74 participants. It had raised $520 to be donated to the Good Neighbor Food Drive. This was supposed to be a one-time event, but the idea was kicked around to make it an annual fun-run. After the first sponsor was established, many others jumped on board as well. The second year, the race had 232 participants, and a much larger sum to donate. This Turkey Trot has raised over $1.5 million to date, and will only continue to bring in more.

This Thanksgiving Day race is in support of the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation, DuPage PADS, and the United Community Concerns Association.

The race day schedule beings with registration and t-shirt pick-up at 6:30am, with shuttles beginning at 7:00. The race will begin at 9 am sharp with awards presented at 10:10. To get in on this fun Thanksgiving Day event, check out the Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot today!

The holidays are right around the corner, and Broughton Hospitality is helping to celebrate with their first annual Share the Warmth program.

During November, all three of our hotels, The Willows, The Majestic, and City Suites Hotel, will be participating. The Share the Warmth program is designed to encourage individuals to donate “gently used” blankets, coats, jackets, and sweaters for those in need. The hotels will be the collection sites for the donations and will provide them to the Lincoln Park Community Shelter. Also, the hotels will continue their holiday tradition of preparing and serving breakfast to the Shelter.

As a Thank You, each person who donates to the Share the Warmth program will receive a $25 gift certificate good towards a stay at any Broughton Hotel in 2011.
